One of One International Women's Day Breakfast

One of One is a not-for-profit music organisation shining a light on women in the music industry. This year on March 8th 2019 for International Women's Day, we were thrilled to host One of One's inaugural Sydney breakfast event in Bea Restaurant, occurring simultaneously to One One's third yearly Melbourne event.

The menu for the event was curated specially by the women of our kitchen, featuring house-made pastries. Bea fruit bowl with grains and yoghurt and a main of cured ocean trout, blistered cherry tomatoes, avocado, served on a warm English muffin. The event was hosted by Yumi Stynes, who welcomed each of the performers and keynote speakers, as well as talking to the importance of equality and mentorship. Jenny Munroe opened the event with a Welcome to Country, and challenged guests to consider the injustices that still face women of colour.

Special live performances were made by Annie Hamilton, Imbi the Girl, Heidi Leffner of Cloud Control and very powerful spoken word poetry reading by Lorna Munro who spoke to the history of Barangaroo. The breakfast also featured two powerful keynote speeches, the first by emerging artist Carolina De La Piedra (known by her artist name Carolina Gasolina) and the second by Radio producer, presenter and artist manager Renee Williamson. Both reflected on diversity and challenging guests to consider the progress of women of non-white backgrounds.

It was a pleasure to host such a wonderful event in Bea with so many talented and inspiring women all together in the same room on such a significant day. We look forward to welcoming One of One back next year!
